Mid-Year Review

Sometime this week my company kicked off her appraisal process… you can tell how excited I am for the mid-year reviews 😥

 

So here I am… thinking true yarns o…. that’s how December will creep in on somebody and then I would start that process of carrying over goals again… Goals I thought were not Big, Audacious & Hairy enough for me at the time I was writing them and now here I am… with my eyes attempting to look through my lids and my lips rolled into a ball beside the corner of my mouth…

 

Nonetheless, reviewing where I am in relations to where I would love to be is quite an important exercise I have come to embrace (with my side that is). This is an attempt to review of some (definitely not all) of my goals and where I am on each journey…. So here we go….

 

Did I write read the bible through again? When will I learn not to throw that in? That is just one ingredient enough to secure a below expectation… seriously? But the bible has been my absolute favorite literature for a while and my go to pasture this year has been the Psalms!

 

Run every Saturday Mornings and walk at least 3 times a week…. I try small for this one… but that Saturday morning sleep won’t let me be great!!!!

 

Attempt to attend every friend’s wedding and buy a thoughtful gift for every friend and family member on their birthdays– You see there is a story behind this one… sometime between 2013 and 2015 I went into a shell… A very quiet place that I absolutely needed and which forms a huge part of my story today but in that period I totally forgot everybody… well almost everybody. Then I woke up in 2016 like yea what did I miss? I think I’m going to do very well on this goal… I’m right on track

 

Read 100 books– To be honest this was not my goal… This was my colleague’s goal… Na follow follow I do wey land me for corner… The idea really was to read 50 books but we decided to ginger ourselves by saying 100 and see how far we could go… I think I’ve read about 10 books through now with my favorite so far being “Good to Great” By Jim Collins. Absolutely great book for every professional, entrepreneur and definitely HR practitioner.

 

Set up a photography outfit in my house– Did I write this??? Yes I did and YES I SO DID on this too I was lucky to have attended a 2 week long photography training with the industry’s finest thanks to Red Media’s TFESS! Although it has been quite a struggle juggling this new love with my job… I try to invest my weekends in studying and taking up mini projects and yes I have a mini studio set up… YAAAY!

 

Stretch out writing capacity- veer into other areas… hmmmm  O.D.O 

 

Attend 2 Toast Master Meetings every month… Epic fail here… Epic… I never even gave my first speech this year!!!!!! Oh but I think I did; in front of my mirror several times… that has got to count for something!

 

Hold 7 small group meetings… This is one thing I am super excited about… In 2014 we started a small group of young professionals who come together every other Sunday evening to talk through our Christian walk, our faith our struggles and our victories… I think the most beautiful part of this is the fact that you see how so many young people are desirous of knowing God on a deeper level and how sharing our stories really help us see that we are not alone… We like to gist after too and eat and play and laugh… this year we have had 3 meetings- At the first meeting which held in January, we watched the movie War Room and discussed it. We equally went home with the assignment of praying for someone in the group other than ourselves for the entire year; that felt beautiful! In the second meeting held in March we talked about hearing from God (some of the things we shared randomly became a real resting place for me just a couple of weeks after) and at the third meeting which was held this Sunday, we simply shared where we were on our faith journey and asked ourselves why we were on the crazy narrow path in the first place!!!! One of the things I hope to do going forward is to create nuggets from the many things we say and share them here!!!! By the way if you think you would love to gist, eat and share with us, hit me up! Like someone said at the last meeting- “We are good peoples”

 

And there you have it… a snippet (and it really is a snippet) of my goals and how I think I have performed so far… Not such a great half year review over all especially when I take a look at the holistic picture which includes Spiritual/Ministry goals, Financial Goals, Health goals, Family/Social goals, Academic/Professional goals & Career & Vocational goals but I’ve got 6 months plus 14 days to make up for the lapses right?

 

Hopefully more action than talk this 2^nd half….
